SSAF 6001 Basic Laboratory Safety Course for RPg candidate in Faculty of Science (Faculty compulsory) |

This safety course is to be conducted twice a year (i.e. in September and January).
Starting from the academic year 2010-11, this course will be made compulsory to students with the following registration dates:
- MPhil candidates registered on or after January 1, 2009
- 3-year PhD candidates registered on or after January 1, 2008
- 4-year PhD candidates registered on or after January 1, 2007.
so that students already finishing the study would be exempted.
It was agreed that the half-day compulsory safety course conducted by the Safety Office be separated into two parts:
(1)the first part consisted of some general occupational safety issues for both laboratory based and non-laboratory based RPg students, without assessment;
(2)the second part related to some specific laboratory safety issues for laboratory-based RPg students, with assessment.

This course provides an overview of advanced photophysics and photochemistry of metal complexes/organometallic materials. The course is designed for postgraduate students that have basic knowledge in photochemistry and coordination chemistry. It introduces advanced concepts in group theory and its applications in assigning various kinds of electronic transitions in metal complexes. The uses of molecular and polymeric metal complexes in advanced technological applications will also be discussed. |

This is a postgraduate course offered by the Joint Centre for Advanced Study. Lectures will be delivered by faculty members from CUHK, HKUST, and HKU.
